University degree in Forest Sciences in 1997, currently GIS Coordinator for Agristudio consultancy service in Egypt and research grant holder at IFAC, I have been working for 20 years in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing applications in environment related sectors as well as rural development and natural resources monitoring and evaluation.
I have worked as Key Expert and Coordinator for several international projects for development cooperation, mainly in North Africa and Central Asia but also in South America, East Africa and Sub Saharan Africa.
My main working experiences have been:
- 2000-2005: tutor of the Master Professional “Geomatics and Natural Resources Evaluation”;
- 2005-2010: GIS Key Expert in Algeria in the framework of two GIS projects applied to rural development and water management;
- 2011-2015: on-site coordinator (Pakistan and Afghanistan) of a regional project on olive crop promotion;
- 2015-2018: Rural Development expert in Afghanistan for the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
Most of my professional activity has been so far focused on GIS training within Development Cooperation Projects, realysing both online or class courses. In this frame, from 2011 to 2015, I have acted as GISMAP training manager while, also starting from 2011, I have been collaborating with gvSIG Association to promote sustainable use of open source software through webinar, video tutorials and articles on related blogs.
The following interactive map shows my experiences in the field of training (T), as an expert GIS (G), program coordinator (P), data collection supervisor (D) and fieldwork (F).
In the framework of development cooperation projects, I can act as an expert in GIS, remote sensing and geographic databases for both long-term missions abroad and for short-term consultancy on specific topics. I have gained extensive experience as a leading expert in projects funded by the European Union and Italian cooperation also in highly disadvantaged environmental situations. My network of professional contacts allows me to submit my candidature as a single consultant or to propose a team of experts with previous joint working experiences.
I have held roles both as a project coordinator and as a referent of development cooperation programs, acting both on the donors’ side as well as on executive bodies, drawing up periodical technical reports and advancing activities, actively participating in high-level institutional meetings. The strong ability to adapt easily to extremely diverse socio-cultural contexts has allowed me to always have extremely loose and productive relationships with all local institutional and private counterparts.
The valorisation of human resources of the counterparty is fundamental in cooperation projects in order to ensure the sustainability of the interventions made. To optimize the transfer of knowledge, depending on the situations and the needs of the project, I have conducted online courses, classroom training, on the job and thematic webinar cycles, always agreeing on programs, duration and methodology with the counterparts. From the outset, I preferred to propose the use of open source software to ensure learning free of linguistic limits and financial availability.
